Was it the uniform?…

Just recently, I was waiting for a cab on my way back home from jurong point at the taxi stand. And from the corner of my eye, a person in white appeared (and no, it’s not a ghost, lol). That person gradually closed in on the distance, and I saw in greater detail, her overall appearance. That person was dressed in a white, full body jumpsuit-like uniform with black leather boots and holding a white construction helmet. She seems to be in her mid twenties, with a nicely tanned face, very delicate and sharp facial features, bright eyes and short, brown hair. She walked with an air of poise and coolness and joined the queue directly behind me. That thick outfit certainly did not hide her shapely body but somehow made it much more appealing. In short, boy was she irresistibly hot! The male instinct took over control, as I stole occasional glances at her while pretending to look around for any incoming cabs. There was only one appropriate word to describe her at that moment. “Wow”……

Soon, that made me wonder why such a gorgeous woman was dressed like a machine operator or a mechanical engineer or a construction worker. I was guessing she worked at one of the oil refineries or research labs at jurong island or something. And somehow, if I were to see her at orchard road in any casual outfit, I would have dismissed her as any other normal pretty woman walking down the street and would not have noticed her that much. And it suddenly struck me. The answer was so obvious. It was the uniform….

The uniform plays a very bizarre role in our world. It can be seen as a symbol of authority, a sign of equality, or even a walking advertisement or a showcase of humiliation and despair. Total defense personnel, political party members, school students, factory operators, fast food chain workers, prisoners and cwo cleaners all wear uniforms. Litter bugs are forced to wear corrective work order’s infamous fluorescent uniforms as a form of punishment to embarrass themselves in public, while prisoners wear uniforms more for the sake of cost savings as well as convenience and hygiene purposes. But, not all uniforms are what they seem to be. The Jews wore prisoner uniforms in concentration camps during world war two, but they committed no crimes whatsoever. The symbol of authority in the army is seen by others, if not most (including me) as a cloak of hypocrisy and pretense. And blissfully ignorant students unknowingly wear school uniforms for the purpose of promoting their school’s image and reputation. Where else can you find an organization in the world that gets paid and sponsored with free advertising at the same time?….

Boy, do I miss the good old days of school uniforms. Sometimes, I wish I was back in secondary school or junior college now, with the sole purpose of chasing skirts and pinafores and searching for the nicest legs around. And back in those days, the tighter the shirt and the shorter the skirt, the better it shows off the beautiful female body (Hey, I was a healthy 16 year old teenager then). It seems that during that time, in the incomprehensible minds of the still-maturing youth, the lesser the amount of cloth on you, the better. However, that gorgeous lady in uniform made me realize something about myself. Exposure of bare skin no longer intrigues me as much as before. Somehow, it was her body posture, the way she walked, the way she stood, and her strong aura of self-assurance, confidence and character that attracted and appealed most to me. And the hideous uniform certainly did not conceal all that at all. I guess I have finally grown up….

Shortly before I boarded a cab, I took a last, long good look at her. But she was already looking in my direction, smiling cheekily at me, as if she already knew I was checking her out right from the beginning….

Wow…

That was awkward and embarrassing. But I have no regrets… =P
